Creek Cross

  • Otterburn Park Swartz Creek (map)

This is a beginner-friendly day of cyclocross fun! Join us at Otterburn Park in Swartz Creek for an intro to CX or wake the legs up with some early season racing, #CrossIsHere!

If you aren’t familiar with cyclocross then just picture road-style bicycles racing off-road with some obstacles randomly added just for fun. The official CX racing season takes place from the fall up through the next spring for international competition (here in Michigan it is generally September through November). There are rules for how your bike is configured for the serious racers including having the drop-bar/bull horn handlebars and tires no wider than 33mm however none of that is required to get started. We fully endorse the “run what ya brung” mindset so as long as your non-motorized 2 wheel vehicle can be safely ridden, pushed or carried the entire length of the +/- 1 mile course then we don’t care about handlebar style or tire width.

Kids love cyclocross too! These races take place off of busy roads and you are never too far from the start/finish area. We will have a mini course for riders under 9 years old that want to get in on the fun. Bikes with training wheels, tricycles, strider bikes, whatever your little rider loves to ride is welcome on the mini course.

We will open the day with both the full and mini courses open to ride with free registration. There will be helpers around to answer questions and offer advice. Many of the races after that will have free entry to encourage more people to just give it a try! If you are riding in one of our free or discounted races and would like to donate a little to help pay for some of the day’s expenses that is an option!
